Life can often be busy and chaotic. Balancing work, study, a social life, family, hobbies, exercise and everything else can be hard work- so it’s no wonder many of us neglect our skin. However, our skin’s health is incredibly important. We begin to age as soon as our bodies stop growing, and one day you might take a good look in the mirror and realize you don’t recognize yourself anymore. While there are fantastic treatments out there these days to give the illusion of winding back the years, prevention is of course far better than cure. Whether you’re a busy parent or an exhausted student, here’s a quick skincare routine that anyone can stick with.
A gentle cleanser will remove makeup from down in the pores, as well as the grease and grime from the day. Our skin cells renew themselves as we sleep, but grime and cosmetics can interfere with this process. For this reason, it’s important to give your face a wash and pat dry every evening. If you invest in a skin cleansing brush you’ll wash and gently exfoliate your face at the same time, killing two birds with one stone and preventing the need for an exfoliating scrub product. If you wear heavy makeup or products that are hard to get off (like lip stain or waterproof mascara) before cleansing go in with a cotton pad that’s been soaked in makeup remover. Micellar water is very gentle on the skin and does a great job. This will remove surface makeup so your cleansing step will be quicker and easier.
You need to moisturizers- one for day and one for night. The day moisturizer will be light and easily absorbed, perfect for when you’re in a rush and don’t have time for a heavy cream to sink in. It will also sit well under makeup, and if you choose a product that contains SPF you’ll protect your skin without adding an extra step. A night cream will be richer and more hydrating and will replenish the skin. Apply after you’ve removed makeup and washed your face to wake up with soft and smooth skin in the morning. You might need to experiment and try different moisturizers and brands until you find ones you love. Having the right beauty skin care products is important, read some reviews before you invest to make sure it’s exactly what you’re after. If your skin is particularly dry, massage a few drops of facial oil into the skin before your moisturizer. However, for most people, the one product is enough if you’re looking to put together a quick and easy routine.
The undereye area is incredibly delicate. It’s prone to damage and is likely to be one of the first places you spot the signs of aging. Using a product specifically designed for under the eyes will ensure they stay hydrated and protect against damage and premature aging. A quick dab under each eye gently rubbed in takes a matter of seconds.
Finally, every now and again treat your skin to a face mask. It could be a charcoal mask to soak up excess oils, a peel off mask, a sheet mask- whatever suits you best. Work out your skin type and use masks designed for this. Once a week or whenever your skin needs it, pop one on and feel refreshed and revitalized.
