Whenever anyone mentions brunch I immediately think about Gossip Girl. The privileged teens of the Upper East Side made brunch cool; if you aren’t brunching on Sunday morning in New York, who are you? It’s the ultimate sophistication, and the perfect excuse to drink alcohol at 11am in the morning.
I was recently invited to try out brunch at All Bar One Sheffield, just a short train ride away from my hometown of Doncaster. I love trying out new bars and restaurants, and I’d never actually visited All Bar One so I was very excited to see their brunch menu.
When we arrived (I took my partner) we found the establishment to be very well presented; it was quiet – bearing in mind it was a Sunday morning – and some unobtrusive jazz was playing in the background.
Taking a look at the menu, I was seriously impressed. Brunch at All Bar One has all of your usual breakfast dishes: full English, vegetarian breakfast and eggs benedict, but it also has some diet-friendly choices. This was a big win for me, as I sometimes feel sluggish after eating a full English and I fancied something protein heavy and low-carb, which is available at All Bar One. I’d say that no matter how strict your dietary requirements, you’ll manage to find something you can eat at brunch, which is impressive and forward-thinking in my opinion.
Taking full advantage of the opportunity to act like my inner Serena (yes I’m a Serena), I ordered a mimosa cocktail to go with my brunch. After all, brunch without a cocktail is just a sad, late breakfast. We were also treated to an adorable shot glass of smarties which went down very well.
Soon after ordering our brunches arrived, looking and smelling delicious. My partner Rob went for the full English (Cumberland & damson sausages, smoked back bacon, free range eggs, portobello mushroom, plum tomatoes, baked beans and toast) because that’s his kind of thing, and I went for the Protein Power Up (Severn and Wye smoked salmon, avocado, poached free range egg and watercress. Served with omega-3 seed sprinkle and a lemon dressing.) My brunch was SO GOOD, and at only 373 calories it was a perfect light brunch to set me up for the day.
Over all my partner and I were seriously impressed with brunch at All Bar One in Sheffield. The choice and quality of the food was superb and the staff were all really lovely and polite. I’d definitely visit again for brunch and if you’re looking for a new place to try I would highly recommend it!
Brunch is served until noon on weekdays and 1pm on weekends. Thank you to All Bar One for inviting me.
