Think about your brand
When designing a logo, it’s important to think about your brand and what you want your logo to say. Is your business serious and professional? Playful and fun? Pretty and elegant? Your logo should tell your customers what you do and who you are – both through the words and the design.
The colours of a logo say a lot: red can conjure feelings of passion, excitement and energy; blue is calming, professional and trustworthy while brown is organic, wholesome, simple & honest. Using an image or a symbol can demonstrate what your company does: a simple knife and fork clearly shows you’re a restaurant; a comb and scissors is a clear representation of a hairdresser. Though my blog is a lifestyle website and covers a range of subjects from books and weddings, to beauty and food and drink, alcoholic drinks (cocktails and wine mainly) are a passion of mine and something that makes A Literary Cocktail unique. Though there are many lifestyle blogs out there, not many of them feature reviews on wine, or include recipes for gin and cocktails. This is why I chose to use a drinks glass symbol for my logo, and specifically, I chose one that can be viewed both as a wine and cocktail glass.
Find a great designer
I have just used Logojoy for a professional yet affordable logo. I’ve had a couple of headers in the past but they’ve never really been ‘right’.
The brilliant aspect of Logojoy is that it is really easy to use. You can create an original logo without the need of any design skills, and as you’re not hiring a freelance graphic designer you’re essentially cutting out the middle man, instead using the bank of images and fonts available on the site.
To create your logo, all you need is the name of your blog, business or brand, and a tagline. You can then choose from a huge range of styles, colours, images and fonts. Logojoy will then create a bank of logos for you to choose from, and if you don’t immediately see one you like, you can play around with them until you find the perfect one.
Once you’ve chosen your design, there are a range of payment options to download your logo images and brand guidelines. The only downside I found when creating my logo was that you can only include one image, but if you want to add further details you can purchase some senior designer time. You can also purchase a set of social media images with the right dimensions for just $9 which is a bargain.
If you use my referral code you can get $20 off a premium logo design – what are you waiting for!
