Drink: Four Dreamy Summer Cocktail Recipes

summer cocktail recipe

So this month we have (finally) been blessed with the presence of a scorching sun, and would you believe temperatures that have reached higher than in Spain (probs). With this gorgeous hot weather comes plenty of garden parties, barbeques and, best of all, all new cocktail bar openings. Yay!

There’s no doubt that summer is the cocktail season and if you’re not out sampling new bars, why not try recreating them for yourself at home. You can even make healthy versions of your favourite to keep your summer bod svelte!

So here I have compiled a list of the top 4 cocktails you should be trying and creating this summer. Quick, while the heat-wave lasts!

Lime Daiquiri

A different take on the typical frozen strawberry daiquiri, is the lime daiquiri. Containing a lot less sugar, this cocktail has barely any calories but still tastes amazing. All you need is 50ml of white rum, 25ml lime juice and 10ml of simple syrup. This classic Cuban cocktail goes down amazingly with salsa and a couple of tortilla chips. Yum!

Mint Julep

This is the perfect refreshing cocktail, served over plenty of ice to keep those temperatures down in the hot weather. Mould a dozen mint leaves as your base – great for digestion, detoxification and whiter teeth. Then add a single measure of bourbon, two measures of soda water, and a dash of simple syrup and finished off with a wedge of lemon. I can almost taste it, can’t you?

Aquariva Margarita

A cocktail based on the traditional taste of tequila, lime juice, and 15ml of organic Agave syrup. This is a cocktail that celebrates tequila with just enough sweet and sour for a completely smooth finish. Try with a bowl of mixed olives, feta and sundried tomatoes for that perfect balance of sweet, sour and salt!

Vodka Sunset

And last but not least, of course we have to have a vodka based cocktail. Just like all the others, this comes in at under 200 calories, which makes it all that more enjoyable to drink – guilt free! Compress a small handful of blackberries in a chilled glass, add a shot of vodka, a shot of lemon and lime juice, some simple syrup and top up with some of my favourite bubbles; champagne! In all honesty, this speaks for itself, and should be enjoyed alone.

I think you will all agree that each of these cocktails just scream SUMMER! So go ahead and try them for yourself, super easy to make with not too many ingredients, meaning that both your pocket and calorie intake remain happy. Let me know if you try any of them, I know I will be!
