Healthy Eating: Grow Your Own Mushrooms with Prêt à Pousser

I’ve jumped on the Slimming World bandwagon and so healthy eating has never been as important to me as it is now. Filling up on fresh vegetables is one of the best ways to ensure you have a healthy diet regardless of whether you’re a Slimming World member or not – and growing your own is an incredibly satisfying way of getting your five a day.

I love growing herbs in my garden but I currently don’t have any fruit or vegetable plants, so when Parisian brand Prêt à Pousser asked me if I’d like to try one of their amazing indoor mushroom growing kits I was really excited to give it a go! The kits come in three colours/flavours – Gray Oyster, Yellow Oyster and the one I went for, Pink Oyster.

The difference between these mushrooms lies in their (natural) color and their taste:
– The gray oyster mushroom is a classic and slightly sweet
– The pink oyster mushroom is more fleshy, slightly woody and reduces less when cooked
– The yellow oyster mushroom has an odor and a taste of chestnut or hazelnut.

These French, organic mushroom kits are very easy and fun to use, so they’re perfect for newbies, families and food lovers. The mushrooms will grow in around 10 days from the day you open the box and start watering (the kit comes with a special spray and instructions – though all you need is fresh water!).

So far I have had one large crop and a few smaller mushrooms have grown since, though as you can get up to three crops from one kit I’m hoping there will be more. I’ve used the mushrooms in stir fries, salads and pasta, though they are perfect for risotto too. The taste of the pink oyster is incredibly unique and certainly nothing like the mushrooms found in local supermarkets.

This is such a fun way to grow your own vegetables and would make a lovely gift for foodies and kitchen lovers.

As Prêt à Pousser are a French brand, they are currently selling in the UK through Amazon. To take a look at their products or make a purchase head to their UK shop here
