A couple of weeks ago I was invited to attend my first ever full-on blogging event, a Great Gatsby themed charity poker night sponsored by Ladbrokes and brought to life by the amazing Search Labs. When I got the invite, I’d only ever played poker a few times under the influence of a few glasses of wine so I didn’t really know what I was doing, but with £500 towards your chosen charity up for grabs, how could I resist?!
The event was held at the Double Tree Hilton in Leeds, so I met up with fellow bloggers Lucinda, Alex and Lucy for a bite to eat and a cocktail beforehand. As we arrived we were greeted with champagne in the Sky Lounge which had fantastic views of the city, and we all had a little chat before we made our way into the main event and found a seat at one of the three poker tables.
At the beginning I was doing alright, and I thought, hey, maybe I’m quite good at poker after all. I got a few good hands but I wasn’t very good at bluffing so once the good hands ran out, so did my luck! Obviously I was rubbish at poker really but I did stay in the game for a fair amount of time so I wasn’t too bad and I still had an amazing time. We were also treated to some wine and nibbles throughout the night which was lovely.
Someone from my original table ended up winning, Bryony was brilliant (and also had a one of the best outfits of the night), and has since decided to donate her £500 winnings to Yorkshire Cat Rescue.
I had such a good time at the Hold Em 4 Charity Poker Night, thank you so much to Search Labs and Ladbrokes for putting the night on and I can’t wait for the next one!
