Le Petit Ballon: February 2018 Review + Competition!

The Le Petit Ballon UK wine subscription box is consistently impressive and enjoyable; in the few months I have been subscribed I have tried a variety of wines I would never have come across before, and I’ve learnt a great deal about wine in the process (without the snobbery that often goes with it).

I enjoy drinking wine more than any other alcoholic drink; heck, to be honest I enjoy drinking wine more than any other drink full stop. I look forward to my Le Petit Ballon box every month and I am always excited by what I find inside. The February 2018 box is another corker (sorry) and includes some beautiful wines all chosen by a top sommelier.

This month’s white wine is Jean Perrier & Fils – Savoie Fleur d’Altesse 2016, a fresh balanced wine ideal to be matched with a salmon and spinach quiche, goats cheese or alone. Powerful, complex and fruity, this isn’t the best white I have been sent by Le Petit Ballon, but like all of the bottles I have received, it’s much tastier than the ones found in your local supermarket. It’s important to point out that all of the wines from Le Petit Ballon come from varied regions of France, so there is something to suit most tastes.

I’m a red wine kind of girl so these are always my favourites, and February’s Domaine Les Lys – Duché d’Uzès 2015 is superb. What makes this bottle exciting it that it is a brand new addition to Le Petit Ballon and discovering new ‘appellations’ is what wine tasting is all about. A little fruity, crisp and with a hint of spice, this is a unique-tasting wine that I really enjoyed drinking.

With a spotlight on ‘back to basics’, this month’s gazette introduces subscribers to everything you need to know about how wine is made and how to drink it. I’ve said it before but the magazine that comes with the two bottles of wine takes this subscription to enjoyable to AMAZING. I absolutely adore settling down with a glass of a brand new wine, the gazette and my tasting notes. Who needs to travel to France when you can enjoy its best wines from the comfort of your own home?
