Le Petit Ballon Wine Subscription Box: December 2018 Review

Le Petit Ballon December 2018 box

As we come to the end of 2017, it’s time to reflect on what we have experienced over the past 12 months. One of the best things I have come across this year is the fact that a wine subscription box exists, and to top it off – it comes from Paris.

I have tried three Le Petit Ballon boxes this year and every single one has been superb. Unlike many beauty boxes, there is no dip in quality and I have been incredibly happy with the contents I’ve received. The wine is chosen by a top sommelier – Jean-Michel Deluc (former Head Sommelier of the Ritz Paris) – and each month the selection is new and original and if you do want to try the wine again, you can purchase it for a discount through the Le Petit Ballon shop.

The idea is that wine should be fun, and if you’re a novice, want to try new wines or just don’t know where to start, this box is for you! If you’re looking for a gift for a drinks lover, a subscription to Le Petit Ballon would be perfect – I know I’d be happy with it!

Le Petit Ballon December 2018 Review

e Petit Ballon december box

This month’s theme is, of course, Christmas! Like the November 2018 box, the December box includes one bottle of white and one bottle of red. This month’s white wine is a 2015 Chardonnay from Chateau des Bois. This fresh, fruity and floral wine comes from the historic Abbey of Cluny in Milly-Lamartine, Burgundy, which is highly regarded for its wine-making.

Now I have tried this wine I realise that I have clearly been drinking seriously low-quality Chardonnays which is why I thought I didn’t like it. This wine is absolutely stunning and I’d choose it again in an instant.

I also received a bottle of a Bindi Sergardi Chianti from Tuscany Italy, a floral, fruity and crunchy red that is a true delight for the Christmas period. I’m actually saving this one for the holiday period so I haven’t tried it yet but I’m sure it will be divine. I love the bottle design and it looks oh-so-classy.

The Gazette (the magazine that comes with the box) is very festive and full of fun Christmas ideas including party games and end-of-year survival tips including wine pitfalls to avoid, how to prevent a hangover and some wine facts for you to wow your guests with! There’s also a couple of recipes and some in-depth interviews with big names in the food and drinks industry. And, as Le Petit Ballon is all about having fun with wine, there are some wine pairings – to match Christmas songs and TV! I love this subscription box.

Le Petit Ballon subscription starts at £24.90 a month. Subscribe here.
