Life: Why I Love My Antique Engagement Ring

ring

So, my engagement ring is an antique. It was made around 1890, and so it was also pre-owned, and possibly pre-loved.

Some people may find this off-putting in an engagement ring, but I absolutely adore it. I was blown away with how well my (now) husband did when choosing a ring; he had no help, the whole engagement was a complete surprise and I had not given him any indication into what kind of ring I’d like.

Luckily, my partner knows that I like things a little out of the ordinary, and he guessed that I’d prefer an antique ring to one that you can find on the high street; something that was unique to me and had a history behind it. I’ll never know who owned this ring in the past, but that just makes it more exciting. Was it an engagement ring before? Was it owned by someone who was loved dearly? Did it belong to someone whose heart was broken?

My ring came from Etsy, but I recently came across Xupes, an online boutique selling antique and pre-owned jewellery, watches, handbags and art pieces. There are some absolutely STUNNING rings on Xupes, though some of them are pretty-darn pricey!

My ring is made up of diamonds with a gold band, and I’ve had a lot of compliments regarding how unusual it is. I wouldn’t change it for the world and I am so grateful that I can look down at my left hand and feel a rush of excitement every time I see it. In my opinion, your ring should be unique to you, and it’s not about how much it costs, it’s about how it makes you feel, and what it represents.

How would you feel about an antique or pre-owned engagement or wedding ring?
