76% of 16-34 year olds snack once a day or more – that’s a lot of snacking. Most of us snack at work or on the go, yet in an increasingly health-conscious world, we’re looking for something more nutritious than a bag of crisps or a chocolate bar.
I’ve been on a Slimming World journey for the past few months, and it’s taught me a lot about food optimisation and getting the most out of your food. A bag of crisps might satisfy your craving, but is it giving you what your body needs? Whether we’re dieting or not, could we be snacking better?
This is where Light Bites comes in. Available in Superdrug – Light Bites offers a range of delicious snacks that are actually good for us (so you can snack healthily AND buy a new lipstick at the same time – bliss!).
Light Bites’ Popped Chips are spud-free, instead they’re made with plant-based soya and chickpea protein. And, as they’re popped and not fried, they contain up to 70% less fat than regular chips, are gluten free and high in protein and fibre. Most importantly, they taste incredible! I’ve tried ‘healthy’ crisps before and I’ve often been disappointed with the taste. Luckily, every flavour I’ve tried (Sweet and Smoky Chipotle, Roasted Shallot and Cider Vinegar, Cheddar Cheese and Chutney and Pesto and Sundried Tomato) has blown me away with how tasty they are. The chips have a different texture to more traditional crisps, but it’s not bad thing -they’re smoother and the flavours really come through. I’ve never had chipotle or pesto flavoured crisps before but my gosh does it work!
At less than 100 calories a bag, they’re ideal for guilt-free snacking and are diet, intermittent fasting and Slimming world friendly. Perfect!
For those with a sweet tooth, you can pick up a Chocolate Cookie Caramel Snack Bar for just 99 CALORIES. I’d compare the taste to a softer Twix bar, great for getting your chocolate fix while snacking well. The bars are made with soya protein with sweetener.
My personal favourite, though, is the Quinoa, Honey and Pumpkin Seeds Superfood Seed Bar. I love healthy, nutrition-packed bar like these, though I find they are often high in calories. The bar is also filled with buckwheat, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds and flaxseed so it is really full of the good stuff, and again, is just 99 CALORIES. How do they do it?!
For now you can pick these healthy snacks up at Superdrug but hopefully they’ll be available at other places soon; at least you can earn some points on your beauty card while sticking to your diet!
