Five Phone Apps I Can’t Live Without (And Why Bloggers Need Them Too)

Though I am loathe to say it, I can’t live without my iPhone. As a full time blogger and copywriter, I’m at a loss if I can’t check my messages, emails and social media channels throughout the day.

Don’t get me wrong, I am a big advocate of putting our phones down and spending time ‘in the real world’ every now and then, but let’s face it; today we rely on or phones for pretty much everything in our lives. Keeping up with friends, corresponding to work emails, checking the latest news, listening to music and taking photos: we do it all on one little piece of technology through applications.

According to statistics from the Carphone Warehouse, at the last count there were 2.2 million apps available to download from the App store. Pretty amazing, right? Anyway, that’s enough of me rambling about the wonders of current technology; here are the five phone apps I can’t live without…

The Five Phone Apps You Need To Download…and how they can benefit bloggers

1. Facebook

Ok, so this one isn’t very original, but it’s great. Most of the time. Sometimes my notifications don’t appear and my news feed does move by itself sometimes, but hey, overall, the Facebook app is a winner. And it’s pretty popular in the UK; 70% of us currently have this downloaded on our phones.

If you’re a blogger: The Facebook app is brilliant for receiving time-sensitive push notifications from your blogging groups.

2. Twitter

I’m a social person and I like to know what’s going on in the world (even though right now the only thing that appears to be going on is #LoveIsland…). Twitter is excellent for providing us with real-time world events and catching up on hashtags. A quick scroll down ‘Today’s Moments’ can provide you with a day’s worth of news.

Interestingly, only 38% of Brits have the Twitter app, so it doesn’t appear to be as popular as Facebook…

If you’re a blogger: Join in on blogger chats, there are so many available! And definitely check out @TheGirlGangHQ

3. VSCO

VSCO is a photo editing app, and it’s what I use to edit my blog photos. It’s really easy to use, and like Instagram, you can either use ready-made filters, or edit the photos manually. I like to play around with the settings manually as I tend to prefer images that look subtlety enhanced.

If you’re a blogger: This app will seriously up your photo game.

4. Instagram

Speaking of Instagram…. this app has really found a place in my heart for the past few months. Initially, I was wary of Instagram Stories and I didn’t see the point with Snapchat being around…

Cut to today and the Snapchat application has been deleted completely from my collection. It seemed pointless to me to try and follow people on Snapchat when I already followed everyone I liked on Instagram. With Instagram Stories, everything is in one place, and I like that. Does anyone use Snapchat anymore?

If you’re a blogger: Instagram is a great way to promote your blog posts, and soon we should be able to post links in our stories.

5. Lifesum

Lifesum is an app that lets you record the food you intake throughout the day, along with your exercise. I came across this app watching a Tanya Burr video, and I’m pretty impressed with it. I haven’t been using it as much the past few days but I am going to make an effort to do so more.

If you’re a blogger: This isn’t really helpful if you’re a blogger, but it’s good for anyone who wants to keep a note of what they’re eating, if you want to lose weight or build up your fitness levels!

What are your essential phone apps?

*This post is in collaboration with Carphone Warehouse but all app love my own*
