Life: Smile Makers – Breaking the taboo

Last weekend I attended a close friend’s hen do (spa and drinks, divine) and as usually happens after a group of girls have drank lots of wine, our discussion turned to sex. Now, if anyone of those girls are reading this I am not going to divulge any of the secrets that were revealed that night, but I am going to talk about something that I think divides a lot of women, and is still seen as a bit of a taboo: female sexual well being.

I was recently contacted by Smile Makers, who make the ‘friendliest vibrators on the planet’. The brand are on a mission to break the taboos around a woman’s sexual well-being. The thought is that, girls, we spend a lot of time on our appearance, trying to find the perfect outfit, contouring our cheekbones and dieting to reach that ‘ideal weight’. Now these things might make us feel better about ourselves, but happiness and well-being, and beauty, comes from within, not just the outside.

You may be surprised to hear that Smile Makers are actually available at Superdrug, and this range of personal massagers are sold exclusively at Superdrug. Makes you think a little different, doesn’t it? Basically, if you’re planning on having a pamper evening, pick up a face mask, a new nail polish, a couple of candles and a Smile Maker.

Women should feel confident to talk about this kind of thing; it’s empowering and if last week’s hen do is anything to go by, a lot of women are really interested in talking about the subject, but are too shy to do so. Being sold in Superdrug, Smile Makers want to help inspire women to feel comfortable with treating themselves, and the feminine style of the products are sure to be attractive to all types of women.

Breaking the Taboo

According to research carried out by Smile Makers, six out of ten women masturbate, and 55% of women have used a vibrator at some point, both alone and with a partner. They also found that nearly two thirds of people believe that self pleasure is natural and healthy (61% of women and 67% of men). These are promising statistics and shows that women are much more open and confident about their sexuality today, though over a third of women still think that it is more acceptable for men to to self-pleasure than women. Which is ridic.

In case you’re still not convinced, the four products are designed to be very friendly to those who are new to them, and they are perfect for women who want to try something for the first time.

There are four types available for £29.99 each at Superdrug. You can also follow Smile Makers on Instagram.

What do you think about this post? Do you think it’s something we should talk about more?
