As the days get shorter and the temperature gets lower, most of us just want to stay wrapped inside our homes, protected from the outside world and all of the stresses that come with it.
Mental health problems are one of the main causes of disease and illness worldwide, and it is estimated that 1 in 6 people in the past week experienced a common mental health problem such as anxiety or depression. With mental health problems being so prevalent in young people, our working hours getting longer and general ‘life’ stress getting us down, it’s never been more important to make time for ourselves.
Now, I am not suggesting that a bath is going to solve any serious problems, and a bath scrub isn’t going to erase a mental health issue, but by taking the time to rest, treat ourselves and get a good night’s sleep will help our overall health – enabling us to deal with whatever is thrown our way. With that in mind, Sanctuary Bathrooms were kind enough to send me some goodies so I could have the ‘perfect night in’, and that’s what I did.
I have a job that keeps me on my feet – and my toes – all day, so I like to unwind at home and relax before I head to bed. Here are my top tips for the perfect relaxing night in.
Netflix and RELAX
The number one best way to switch off your brain and relax is by sticking on Netflix (other TV providers are available) and watch a great show. I’ve recently started watching The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and The Haunting of Hill House – both of which are perfect for dark nights under the blanket. If you have someone to watch it with, even better!
Chocolate and Wine
You can’t unwind without chocolate and wine, that’s a fact. I recently tried this organic, dairy free, vegan white chocolate alternative by So Free. I’m not going to lie, personally I don’t think it tastes as good as real chocolate, but it’s a fab alternative if you can’t have the real thing! I will drink any wine that is available to me, but if you have a more sophisticated palate I suggest you take a look at the brilliant Le Petit Ballon.
Run Yourself a Hot Bath
Never mind a warm bath, a hot bath is what you need in this weather! I love a bit of bubble bath and nothing makes running a bath feel more fun than a bath bomb from Lush. The one pictured surprised me by turning blue and turned my bath into a unicorn-themed bubbly haven! I used this Burlington Extendable Bath Rack which is ideal as I have a large, curved bath and most racks don’t fit – this is the first one I’ve found that works with my unusually shaped bath! Although, I must admit I need to get use to having one: the first time I used it I accidentally knocked it with my knee and spilt a large glass of red wine into my fresh bath-water. I’m not sure what I mourned more, my bath or my wine!
Have a Pamper Session
I love having a pamper session in the bathroom; I turn the room into a home spa and it really helps me to feel relaxed and at ease. Even if you don’t have long, all it takes is a face mask like the Flower Fusions Violet sheet mask from Origins. It smells stunning and left my skin feeling super-smooth, ready for bed! Using a body scrub like the Lavera Smoothing Body Scrub will make you feel brand new and get rid of dead skin cells (it’s main ingredients are green coffee bean & green tea) and a moisturising body wash like Nivea’s Indulgent Moisture range will mean you can slip straight into your pyjamas, grab a book and get into bed at a sensible time.
How would you spend the perfect night in? I’d love to hear your tips!
