Where would you go on your perfect road trip? Would you travel through Italy, or would you rather stick to the English countryside? Would you plan it to the minute or would you leave it up to fate?
Wherever you decide to go on your road trip, by making sure you pack everything you need, you can focus on enjoying your trip and exploring the world.
To help you on your way, here are 10 essential things you need for any successful road trip!
1. A reliable car
If you’re going on a road trip the number one item you need is a reliable car – one that will take you on your trip safely and comfortably.
2. Bottles of water
Water is possibly the most essential thing to bring on a road trip. You will be driving for long stretches of time and it’s important to keep hydrated.
3. Maps
Yes – an actual paper map. Mobile phones and sat navs are fantastic, but you never know when technology could fail you. If you have a paper map with you, you’ll avoid getting lost if the worst does happen, and you won’t have to constantly worry about your mobile losing battery. Speaking of which…
4. A USB car charger
These days a USB car charger is essential; you’ll need it for your mobile phone, camera, sat nav and any other electrical equipment you bring along. To avoid arguments, buy one with two ports so you can charge at the same time.
5. A playlist
Whether your car has a CD player or a port to attach your phone or iPod, a fun road trip playlist will make your holiday one to remember! Pick your group’s favourite songs and you’ll always have something to remember your trip by.
6. Snacks
If you’re anything like me, then snacks are a necessity (no-one wants to go on a road trip with a hangry person) – pack lots of healthy snacks to keep you going.
7. First aid kit and emergency supplies
You never know what could happen on a road trip, so make sure you pack a first aid kit and some emergency supplies. Make sure you have your insurance and breakdown details handy in case you need to use them.
In the case of a breakdown, an emergency kit including a warning triangle, warm clothes, a torch, a spare mobile phone and some comfortable shoes will keep you protected as you wait for help.
8. A shoe organiser
Yes a shoe organiser, but not for your shoes! Hang it on the back of one of the seats and fill it with snacks, books, toiletries, electronic equipment and a bottle of water. If you have children, this is a great way of keeping everything in place for them to keep them entertained while keeping the car clean.
9. A spare car key
You never know when you might accidentally lock yourself out of the car…
10. A great friend
A road trip is always much better with a companion, whether it be a partner, family member or best friend.
Have a great trip!
