Whether you’re a local Doncastarian or you’re simply a fan of getting dressed up, sipping prosecco and placing bets, you’ll be aware of South Yorkshire’s most popular tourist destination, Doncaster Racecourse!
Doncaster Racecourse is one of the UK’s oldest centres for horse racing and is home to the popular William Hill St Leger Festival, which attracts visitors from all over Britain. With 36 horse racing fixtures a year, the racecourse is ideal for racing-enthusiasts and novices alike. Even if you’re not a fan of horse racing, it’s a wonderful excuse to get dressed up, sip cocktails and possibly even win some cash!
Aside from wearing a fancy new frock and drinking wine, my favourite aspect of going to the races is the live music afterwards. In the past Doncaster Racecourse has seen the likes of Kaiser Chiefs, Madness, Happy Mondays and Chase & Status grace the stage, with this years’ line up boasting The Beach Boys legend, Brian Wilson.
If by some chance you aren’t sure who Brian Wilson is, he is an American musician, singer and songwriter who co-created The Beach Boys whose hits included ‘Good Vibrations’, ‘I Get Around’, ‘Wouldn’t It Be Nice’ and the song I walked down the aisle to, ‘God Only Knows’.
I am incredibly excited to see Brian Wilson, who is a true musical genius and a real treat to Doncaster. Make sure you don’t miss this legend playing songs from influential album Pet Sounds, top hits from The Beach Boys and his solo career.
Brian Wilson featuring Al Jardine and Blondie Chaplin will perform at Doncaster Racecourse after racing on Saturday, August 18. This is the first meet of the summer, so it’s going to be a good one, see you at the front! Find out more here.
